Watching #WWDC? It's probably a good time for a behavioural economics refresher on anchor pricing. The $3,499 isn't what the majority will pay. There'll be a mass market version along either at launch or shortly after that'll be priced at 'only' $1,999 or something similar. That'll feel relatively inexpensive, because Apple has 'anchored' the $3,499 number in people's minds.
It's what the $150 bottle on a wine list is for: to make the $70 bottle they really want you to buy seem like a deal!
