Personally, I much prefer nuclear over coal. If it’s sufficiently flexible, I’d prefer nuclear over natural gas too.
The political problem is that coal deaths are slow, indirect, and boring while Nuclear deaths are fast, direct, and captivating. People, and thus the governing systems we create, are wired to pay much more attention to the second one.
PS renewables are critical too - nuclear should be part of an “all of the above” strategy.
