I love this.

I agree with every concern you had. I also see why people are going to be on the fence about running a node due to lack of comfort not knowing what they have to download in addition to financial transactions.

I guess this is just another checkpoint in a race between the aligned incentives that drive Bitcoin, and the self-serving forces in the world pushing against it like they always have.

Like you, I also see hope.

We make an impact by contributing to causes we care about, so for those that see this…

Here’s a list of things happening in Bitcoin that I think are more important than cool expensive JPEGs:

- Open and free banking for the developing world including cross-border remittances. (Jack Mallers and Strike)

- Creating new energy infrastructure in Central America and Africa through Bitcoin Mining being a buyer of last resort in isolated renewable power-grids (Erik Hersman and GridlessCompute)

- Using Lightning Network and instant settlement to reduce friction for recurring energy payments resulting in lower energy prices. (Austin Mitchell and Synota Inc.)

- Open protocols alongside Bitcoin such as Nostr, enabling open and un-censorable social networks

These to me are life changing and I think they’re just the beginning, I hope the Crypto folks can see it too.
