Over the summer, I had a conversation with my sisters about this 1941 article from Harper's Magazine entitled "Who Goes Nazi?"
It was written by Dorothy Thompson, who went through the experience of seeing people she knew turn nazi in Germany, Austria, and France. She writes the story as if she is at a party, looking around the room, predicting who will submit to fascism based on their personal traits and backgrounds.
"I have come to know the types: the born Nazis, the Nazis whom democracy itself has created, the certain-to-be fellow-travelers. And I also know those who never, under any conceivable circumstances, would become Nazis."
My sisters and I decided that it would not only be important to know what WE would do if Trump wins, but to try to predict who around us could be counted on as allies and who will turn against us.
