My brother was very much into D&D in the 80s and the local news showed up as some kind of multi school club summit and took b-roll of a bunch of geeks in capes & wizard hats for a scare segment on "The trend popular with teens, but some are saying it's roots are Satanic"
Two of the other clubs were shut down after that, had to become nonschool clubs, but the one at our super-crunchy suburban district got a 500 gift from an anonymous parent.
They shared it with the other clubs.
