This is low-key one of the biggest psyops of the last 50 years -- *the idea that your own observations, intuitions and insights are worthless against the body of accepted knowledge.*

The theory of relativity was discovered by a tinkering patent clerk! The dull, obedient tenured career academics do more to stifle innovation than propel it forward. Max Planck famously said: "Science advances one funeral at a time."

Do you know who read the patent clerk's Theory of Special Relativity and asked for clarification on it after the paper had been ignored by the entirety of mainstream science at the time?

Max Planck

So I see this cartoon as a great litmus test -- if you view it as a hilarious dunk on the cranks who are challenging the orthodoxy, you have fallen for the psyop and assumed your place as a midwit, dutiful to the status quo. If you take it unironically and are curious as to what he might have found, you are free.

Full disclosure: I fell for this psyop for a long time, and am both pissed at myself for squandering so much time but also overjoyed to be free of it and thirsting for knowledge about the world as a result.
