I doubt it would have done anything to swing the results in the election, as the Democrats have been building their “anti-immigrant, but polite” brand for years now, but when the choice is between a bland anti-immigrant candidate and a spicy anti-immigrant candidate, pretty easy to see why people motivated by the issue would vote for the latter.
