happened recently at my workplace, we're 99% python and JavaScript shop and an engineer insisted his random microservice be in rust so we'd have to learn a whole new language, toolchain, deployment etc if we ever need to touch that. I think the main reason engineers do this is to keep the resume looking fresh, even when there's no business need for it.
