I knew my great grandmother. We called her GG. I used to go stay with her in a little clapboard house. She would make us tea, which she served with lots of milk and a little sugar. She was born sometime in the late 1800s in the Indian Territories, which is what Oklahoma was before it became a state. Her father was a government representative to the Indians, and they would come, sit in a circle, and ask to see Mr. Menifee.
Our ancient history is not as ancient as we like to believe.
