BATTLE OF CTESIPHON (198AD)

In 198 AD, Emperor Septimius Severus turned his attention to the Parthian Empire. Tensions had been rising between the two powers, and Severus saw an opportunity to strengthen Rome's position in the East.

With a well-trained army, Severus launched a campaign into Parthian territory. The Roman legions, known for their discipline and tactical prowess, faced fierce resistance from the Parthian cavalry. However, the Romans, with their superior siegecraft, were able to overcome Parthian defenses.

The culmination of this campaign was the capture of Ctesiphon, the Parthian capital. This significant victory marked a turning point in the history of the Roman-Parthian conflict. The Parthian Empire, already weakened by internal struggles, suffered a severe blow.

The Roman conquest of Ctesiphon established Roman dominance in the region and laid the groundwork for future conflicts with the emerging Sassanid Empire.
