Definitely not a pleasant experience, there! The problem isn't programming by voice, though, it's the tooling used. I remember seeing a more engaging presentation years ago, but the best demonstration I was able to find now is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsodtJY0BX8 -- which is still from years ago, but I think is actually a bit more recent than what I had in mind.
I've always been very intrigued by accessibility software and had idle thoughts about setting various alternate interfaces up on my systems (this, text-to-speech, etc.), but I'm personally lucky enough that I've never needed to make doing so a priority, and also never had anyone hanging out who'd benefit from it, so I've never gotten around to actually doing so.
