The app menu search works perfectly for me with XFCE.
For file searching I use https://github.com/cboxdoerfer/fsearch
It's similar to the VoidTools "Search Everything" app for windoze
fzf is pretty awesome for CLI
I haven't had the use case for searching for functions within apps but that seems interesting.
