Andrea Sibley-Smith, who has lived in Carbon Canyon for 50 years, shows her late husband's artwork and walking staff during the Sleepy Hollow centennial celebration on Oct. 16 at the Chino Hills Community Center. Victor Joachim Smith, former chairman of the Art Department at Cal State Fullerton, painted the owl using oak galls he found on oak trees in Carbon Canyon. The round fibrous growths contain a chemical in which ink can be made, his wife said. Mr. Smith's art is displayed in more than 40 states, Europe, and Japan.
