I read “Heart of Darkness” the summer before 6th grade and just obsessed over it and Conrad’s writing all summer to a point that I didn’t even do my actual Summer Reading Assignment so I tried to convince my teacher to accept a project about it. Instead she gave me a week to do the assigned readings+projects on “Cold Sassy Tree” and “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” which wasn’t a hardship but let’s be honest: they’re no “Heart of Darkness”
