That depends on the riff and who’s doing it. Also, was there any noticeable reverence? If they show that they are trying to respect the song, I may give them a pass if they screw it up.
The only riffed version I have ever heard that was better than the original, came from Whitney Houston. I doubt I will ever hear anyone even come close to her rendition.
