You can speak perfectly comprehensible, if stilted, English without using any Latin root words, and even there we have interesting class-based pairs like pig/pork and deer/venison. Even more so for the other Germanic languages with less French influence (see that fascinating video someone posted). Loan words aren’t crucial for the evolution of most languages.
