It's the "at this point" that's relevant to me, US elections are big machines and changing course at this point would come at a big cost. These legitimate worries were raised by a lot of people earlier in the process when a different candidate could have been picked and be effective. Obviously if Biden chooses to drop out or dies that is what it is. Anyway, I thought Beau of the 5th Column had some interesting insight into how some people outside of the political pundits and obsessives are feeling about this. Also, this panic seems to me to be about people who weren't realistic about Biden in the first place freaking out because their ridiculous "Dark Biden" fantasies have crumbled (those fantasies seemed to me like a sort of mirror image of the Trump fantasies about a strongman coming to save America without anyone having to put any work themselves).
