It was otherwise a pretty horrific system. To be a little bit fair to billware, most of Windows instability has to do with drivers and the way they are capable of taking the OS down (bad software architecture.) Before that (95, 98) it was literally a DOS shell, and sucked accordingly.

I thought Windows 2000 looked like they were finally on track to deliver something good, and then... it didn't. Hasn't since.
