It doesn't have to be a great medium of exchange to be used as such. The fact that you can use your SoV to transact with is a major advantage. You don't have to swap out of your preferred SoV in order to transact.
This is not possible with the widely used SoVs today. You can't buy groceries with a portion of a house or with an Apple share.
This is what many xmr folk miss. It's good to have transaction privacy but it's not a great SoV. I'd rather use lightning or liquid to achieve privacy.
The biggest inhibitor for Bitcoin as an MoE is government imposed CGT. It's not enough to stop people using it but it certainly limits its use.
