I checked it out a couple of times in the past, mostly out of curiosity sparked by bridged posts on the Fediverse. It didn't stick for some reason. I think the UI/UX lacking may have been a factor.

Also, I'm generally not that into social media as it distracts me from IRL pursuits. I mostly just lurk a few accounts on Nitter and the Fediverse when I want to kill some time. I also spent a few months on Farcaster because I liked the high concentration of builders on there as well. It's a very similar vibe, but a different "religion" (ETH vs. BTC). I'm not a big fan of Ethereum as a platform, especially the uber-centralized L2s, but there's a lot of creative and impressive projects built on top of it. Particularly the ZK stuff.

Somehow I heard about Primal and decided to check it out.

Primal has a great UI/UX and I keep discovering new and interesting projects, builders, etc. so it seems to be sticking this time. I'll probably bounce after a while, just as I did with Farcaster. I don't have any desire to build up a following, I'm just here to explore and learn.

I've made some interesting internet friends on both the Fediverse and Farcaster, that I keep in touch with on Telegram and Signal. Maybe that will happen here as well.

I think the main issues facing Nostr adoption are the hyperfocus on BTC and similarly to X.

Twitter was the first microblog platform, so they're #1. Mastadon has claimed the #2 spot for this category and will almost certainly maintain it.

That's just how it goes. Think Coke and Pepsi, iOS and Android, PC and Mac. The examples are endless in every market category.

It's better to be first than it is to be better, and if you're not 2nd, then you're fucked. The alternative is to invent a new category to be first in. The Twitter style microblog category is already taken by #1, #2 and several #3+'s

The Nostr app that finally gets massive adoption will be something totally new that provides a unique UX and value proposition. Another Twitter clone, regardless of backend technology (and zaps) will never be more than a niche "small town" network for a certain crowd.
