For those who wonder, yes, it has been an especially catastrophic event within its category that's related to jet streams (and thus hard to predict by weather models).
But it's not unusual or even historically unique and in fact it simply is a fact of life and part of our normal weather patterns in our general region (the NW corner of the Mediterranean). Being surprised because we have had one of these events over here is like being surprised because there has been a typhoon in Japan or a hurricane in Florida.
Within current memory, in 1957 Valencia itself (the capital city I mean) had another one where at least 81 people perished. In 1962, further north, in the greater Barcelona region, we had an episode in which 617 people died (officially) and tens of thiusands lots absolutely everything (including some family of mine). The list goes on, and extends to tens if not hundreds of events in centuries past.
So "climate change" would mean that we DID NOT have one of these catastrophes. Bringing this nonsense up has only one motivation: to hide human error and incompetence by the authorities, current and past, ascribed to all political parties, who failed to put efficient early warning systems events and catastrophe remediation measures ready to be deployed on the spot upon need.
