Artillery is not obsolete if it was ukraine would be able to take more than a few kilometers in an offensive and actually hold onto it without getting blown to hell the minute the russians pull back and start shredding them with artillery. Its the cheapest way to obliterate anyone within range of it the only counter is having enough of something that can outrange it and take it out before getting in range of it and that seems to be something ukraine is not capable of.
