I'm not the type to discredit a myth. I'm fine with saying Jesus resurrected. Paul is also well-rooted in the proto-merkabah tradition and the way he plugs the life, death, and resurrection into 2nd Temple mysticism is genius.
My problem with Christianity is that is just isn't particularly special, except for its size. It's one rich mythos among many, yet it demands the utter destruction of everything else it touches, which you'd expect of something spawned by judaism.
Mysticism is just something that happens, universally. Binding everything to one particular deity who we know from archeology is just a corrupted version of an ancient Canaanite storm god is evil. The Gnostics had their own philosophical problems, addressed best by Plotinus, but they realized how foolish the jewish approach was and understood the Gospel in a far more sensible way, mythologically.
