I'm in an enviable position, unintentionally. I went with 4 relays to start off with on Damus, and just followed people I trusted from Bird app. Never felt the "app" was slow. Matched the same relays on desktop, to ensure continuity.
However, I found some accounts here that have provided more value in the last 12 hrs than most accounts in the last 10 years on bird app.
Thinking I'll use whatever relays those accounts are using along with my own.
If #nostr gets as decentralised as it looks is possible and the value proposition from users across multiple relays becomes reality, then we may face issues with slowness on the network.
One thought that did occur to me though is that this may be like bitcoin. Nostr may be like layer one and there may be a layer 2 solution that gets bolted on top of nostr that speeds up inter relay or client to relay communication much like lightning does with Bitcoin. Just a thought though.
