it's so fucking funny that all Labor would have to do to pass their housing bill is "something that would help a whole lot of poor people" and they just categorically won't do it because they are, ultimately, ideologically opposed to that sort of thing (despite what the most rusted-on fuckheads will tell you)

it is difficult to think of something which is more iconically Labor than being handed an easy win for the working class and deciding instead to look the other way and loudly shout "finding a balance! finding a balance!" in the hopes the problem will go away
