I'm a middle manager. They tried making me ask the vaccine status for remote positions I was hiring for. I told them no, that was the dumbest thing I've ever heard. They relented, but I'm pretty sure the HR pre-screening process was modified to ask that. I respected my applicants less for putting up with it, but at least I didn't have to ask.
