I've been thinking about those 100-in-one electronics projects kits, and the new stuff like Snap Circuits, and feel like there should be something a bit more toward digital logic building blocks that's a bit more advanced (like playing with 74xx ICs on a breadboard, as I recall doing in like 4th or 5th grade) but hard to accidentally damage...
Maybe little modules that use keyed in/out/power connectors that provide gates, switches/buttons, LEDs, 7-seg displays, etc.
