Like I said, I am posing the question as a thought experiment, detached from the realities of the US' abysmal police situation.
Let me rephrase it as a more fundamental question: what follows after abolishing the police. A new police force? Communities? Mobs? Vigilantes?
I am completely willing to envision a radically different society, but it feels to me there's no way around it: in every society, no matter its form, you'd need something that functions as the police.
