I honestly have never heard anyone refer to themselves or a group of people as Americanos when wanting to refer to people in the Americas. Rarely are we grouped together anyway. But in Spanish or “when in Rome” I use gringo just to avoid the constant correction (“well actually”), but it has always bugged me because gringo is used consistently and pins the relationship into a negative one. 🤷‍♂️
