I don’t know if the husks of the plant are safe to use. The Physalis husks from pharmacies come from Physalis peruviana, a South American relative.

I also don't know if they can be used like tomatillo husks in Mexican cuisine. (Water boiled with husks is used for the batter to make the tortillas soft and flexible.)

Since Physalis grisea is a Solanum (in the nightshade family), I'm wary about using other parts of the plant.
