It depends on what features you use and the client. For example, things like <b> work on pleroma and soapbox. I don't know about mastodon or misskey though. <img> does not appear in soapbox, at least not the version that poast uses. (I frequently use <img> to insert images like emojos that are not among my instance's emojos. )I was also surprised to see that on soapbox <ruby> (mainly if you post Japaniizu‐language text) and <abbr> (for inserting small spergouts like the alt‐text field of images) work.
