A punk/antifolk-adjacent songwriter who goes by the name “Catbreath?” is getting a lot of attention for his music, by the expedient of giving his songs titles like “My Liked Songs”, “Gym Bangers”, “That Last Song Again” and “Country Songs About Jesus” (the last one being two minutes of noise), and relying on voice command handling on Spotify and Apple Music to do the rest. Interestingly, he says he’s getting about $150 a month from this. I wonder if that’s all from non-Spotify services, or if his gimmick is enough to push him over Spotify’s monetisation threshold into the company of the Drakes and Taylors and Harrys who actually get paid.
