two different things. One, don't compare deaths as an argument (Israel bad Israel killed more), because ultimately, both sides would claim the other still has a price to pay. You *can't*-ish make equivalence, because no one agrees on the numbers. *You* can do a "roughly" (I'd recommend going with Israel for Israeli death count, and half of the lowest between the Palestinian and Gazan health ministries; Israel publishes accurate if not lower than actual death count, and I'm skeptical about Hamas and the PA), but you can't sign a peace deal. It's just a bad argument for a lot of reasons I can explain if not for length limit.
You shouldn't prefer one of them, as death is bad either way. That is: both Hamas and the Likud have commuted war crimes, therefore both are illegitimate.
