Woke has become a pejorative term used by the new right to describe anything they consider excessively progressive or liberal. Many people, including some on this platform, seem to be unclear about what it actually means. The term originated in African American Vernacular English and was used to describe being aware of and actively working to address social injustices, particularly racism and discrimination. It is often associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and other social justice movements. Despite its origins, the term has been co-opted and distorted by some on the right, who use it to mock or belittle people they perceive as being overly sensitive or ideological. As a result, the term has taken on a negative connotation, and its meaning has become increasingly unclear.
