Woke has become a pejorative term used by the new right to describe anything they consider excessively progressive or liberal. Many people, including some on this platform, seem to be unclear about what it actually means. The term originated in African American Vernacular English and was used to describe being aware of and actively working to address social injustices, particularly racism and discrimination. It is often associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and other social justice movements.
