This morning*, a doctor visited me and conducted an examination. I'm showing clear signs of improvement and should be fully recovered in a few days. It's likely a viral laryngitis.
The doctor mentioned that there's a wide range of illnesses currently circulating, including some that hadn't been seen in years. This is partly because many people are caught up in the holiday rush, focused on gifts and shopping, and don't even slow down when they have a high fever. The doctor suggested watching TV commercials to see this phenomenon in action.
Following this advice, I noticed a recurring theme in the ads: people with fevers taking a pill and then immediately resuming their activities, with no regard for others. It's as if nothing's changed.
The pandemic hasn't taught us much, it seems. Individualism still underpins the decisions of many, unfortunately. I plan to avoid close contact until I'm fully recovered, and if I must interact with others, I'll wear a mask. It's not COVID, but I don't want to risk making anyone else sick due to my negligence.
*On Sunday: many years ago, during my frequent travels, I took out a private insurance policy that provided doctor visits anywhere in the world. Although I haven't used it since 2007, I kept it because it was affordable. I activated it now to avoid going to my regular doctor tomorrow.
