New thread of video games this time devoted to 90’s sensation Shiny Entertainment. I will fully acknowledge some of the individuals who worked for Shiny over the years have ended up being bigots some of the games posted those people worked on.
First up is Shiny’s debut game Earthworm Jim on the Sega Genesis in 1994. Coming of the success of Aladdin at Virgin Games Shiny’s founder David Perry bankrolled a new video game company along with a deal with playmates toys. Earthworm Jim was designed as a cross marketing IP alongside a cartoon and toy line. Much of the technology used to capture smooth fluid animation for Aladdin was employed and perfected here.
In Earthworm Jim you play as the titular character Jim who is an earthworm and gets a super suit that falls from the sky. The games plot has you racing the galaxy in order to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name from her sister The Evil Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt. Along the way you meet characters like Peter Puppy and villains like Bob the Goldfish, Professor monkey for a head and Evil the Cat. All the while being chased by the bounty hunter Psy-Crow. Also Launch the Cow.
