In the last several videos, we’ve been talking about Dr. Bredesen’s first book, published in 2017, that had served as the first playbook for my dad: The End of Alzheimer’s: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline. We’ve specifically been talking about the ReCODE Protocol, which he details in the book.

ReCODE for Reversal of Cognitive Decline, which is a personalized protocol that addresses multiple factors contributing to someone’s cognitive issues, bringing them back to optimal ranges and helping patients reverse disease and symptoms. Dr. Bredesen’s team has helped hundreds of people reverse their cognitive decline, established mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease with this protocol, as evidenced in successful studies in 2014, 2018, 2022 and current clinical trials.

ReCODE is a personalized program that is tailored to how every patient tests on individualized evaluations. In past videos we’ve talked about how the first testing phase to screen for all of the risk factors that contribute to cognitive health and decline is what Dr. Bredesen calls the Cognoscopy.

And like we talked about in the last video, you’re going to want a seasoned medical professional managing this protocol and having a collaborative relationship with you, especially if you or a loved one are already dealing with or have been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairmant or Early Alzheimer’s.

The key at this stage is to gather as much data as we can to get the clearest picture of where we stand with these markers. Now, in an ideal scenario, we’d get all tests on the Cognoscopy completed. With that, we’d have as full of a data set for our medical team to work with to tailor the most dialed-in protocol for what we’re looking to achieve, whether that be prevention or reversal.

As you start testing to create that clear picture for yourself or loved one, here are the key Cognoscopy lab tests to prioritize that are covered by most health insurance plans:

• Vitamin B12
• Vitamin B9 (Folate)
• Vitamin D
• Fasting Glucose
• Hemoglobin A1c
• Homocysteine
• Total Cholesterol
• HDL Cholesterol
• LDL Cholesterol
• Triglycerides

Now, out of these 10 tests the top 2 most important that Dr. Bredesen would want you to have a good gauge on would be:

Fasting Glucose
And
Hemoglobin A1c

These two markers are important gauges on not only our blood sugar control, but our overall metabolic health. Even if pre-diabetes or diabetes has not been diagnosed, when these markers are outside these optimal ranges it typically points to the state that precedes pre-diabetes or diabetes, which is Insulin Resistance. For optimal cognitive health and function, we’re going to want the opposite of that, we’re going to want insulin sensitivity. There are good reasons and very good studies that demonstrate why Alzheimer’s has been more and more referred to as Type 3 Diabetes.

We’re going to unpack that and get into more detail why that is in future videos but bottom line for now is that the better our insulin sensitivity, the better our overall metabolic health, typically the better our cognitive and neurological health.

Hope this is helpful for you and your family. Thank you for watching!
