Groups like RAINN have been combing through police reports to produce these statistics. You assume that every report gets police attention but since the majority of SA is acquaintance rape, police don't bother to investigate, let alone refer them for prosecution. They simply record them. There are many thousands of untested rape kits across America. But I personally know a number of women who never reported because they did not want to deal with cops, my sister included. Prostitutes don't report because they are held in contempt by cops who consider it the cost of doing business. Juries won't convict white men even when the evidence is overwhelming because they don't want to "ruin a man's life." It's so rarely prosecuted, it's for all intents and purposes, virtually legal in practice. A study just published revealed that the lives of rape victims are harmed by reporting whereas a man's life is barely affected. Victims are ostracized while people like you rally to rapists' defense.

And the fact you can mock mass violence against women shows what an uphill battle it is.
