I think that when we stopped shaming kids for what they do (as opposed to who they are) we fucked ourselves culturally. The complete and utter lack of shame in the people who, e.g., took money from Russia to pretend to be victims of crime, or pundits (etc.) is, imo, the direct result of not teaching kids to be ashamed of bad acts.
