The way Apple gimps their hardware is a huge turn-off. They're a hardware company, so they want to sell you a new device. I now have two olders Macbooks we had to retire (2011 and 2012 MBPs) because they couldn't run Nextcloud due to the OS being out of date. Linux is the way forward for sure if you don't want to replace it.
