We *must* rely on well-regulated experts to make these calls for us, and when the institutions fail us, we are thrown into a state of epistemological chaos. We *must* make decisions about whether to trust these technological systems, but we *can't* make informed choices because the one thing we're sure of is that our institutions aren't trustworthy.
