Being in an environment with little way of entertainment, security, any way to truly establish territories, and constantly being under stress due to extreme population density probably initiated a feedback loop of self-soothing behavior. The beautiful ones in particular were less violent than the already aggravated population of mice. Social dynamics were fucked so they all started coping in their own way
