BITCOIN did NOT have one necessary quality of money built in. It needed that to survive. Even Satoshi knew, as exemplified by his words, " in case it catches on". This absent characteristic of Bitcoin was absolutely going to be needed. Otherwise Bitcoin would have gone nowhere. The characteristic missing was "RECOGNIZABLE".
Money MUST BE , portable, divisible, durable, AND Recognizable..The Recognizable part of the battle was going to be the hardest. It has been the hardest. ALOT of Fear, lies, and doubt Have been tossed at Bitcoin, but they have ONLY served to help build its world wide Recognized brand . The open sorce brand "Bitcoin" has achieved the fastest brand recognition in the history of mankind. It's current growth is astounding. I believe we have hit the point where the Bitcoin brand fits the "recognized" category.
