Outside quietly reading in my garden today and I heard the sound of something gnawing on wood...a faint sound, but the day was quiet. Firstly I found a wasp systematically chewing on some old wood on the shed then later found two black bees(?) which ressembled ferocious ants, fighting over a hole one of them had excavated in a dead viburnum branch. I know something had excavated a hole, because the sawdust was sprinkled in spider webs and on leaves.
