Just a few days before my Dad died his 3rd great grandchild was born and now just a few weeks later his 4th great grandchild has safely arrived yesterday.
Emotions are running so high in our immediate family right now. There are so many hugs and tears but they are mix of sad and happy. It is heartbreaking that Dad is not here to share the joy of the new arrivals and I keep wishing that he had lived a few more weeks.
It is hard to let go of the sadness but I also know that Dad would be the first to be pulling silly faces at the new babies and be totally enthralled by them. Dad's joy for life, love for his family and and sense of fun and laughter has shaped our family for more than 80 years. He still guides us.
On a more Spinsterish note. My niece had a difficult labour as the baby was not in the right position. Despite all the negative stuff we hear about hospital maternity wards she got great care. As soon as they realised what was going on they moved her to where she could get more personalised care and despite the fact that her well prepared birth plan was out of the window, this was her first baby and she ended up with an emergency C-section my niece felt well supported and cared for. I went to see them this evening and the baby is gorgeous and my niece is fucking fantastic. She was out of bed, dressed in a cute lounge outfit and tucking into a huge pie when I arrived! She is going to be a kickass mum.
