I want to try and drop this old note here.
quoting nevent1q…uuruA question I hope someone on nostr can answer. I'm currently looking to obtain some high-carbon steel, small amounts that I can use to attempt to make some blades for wood-working hand-planes and also some smaller blades for cutting some longer rips on some thinner wood stock(think cutting gauge/Japanese "Wari kebiki"). I've heard the "grade" 1095 steel often as appropriate for those things. I'm more keen to try and sponge some steel off the street in a tip or something but I went to a steel supplier today anyway just to try and learn some more about it. The only steel that they were able to suggest that they could supply was called "Black Steel". Now I've done a brief bit of research on that but I don't think it's appropriate. Ideas?
