This post of C++ books looks interesting and useful. I find it surprising that it’s open and maintained instead of having been closed and deleted. SO has generally discouraged recommendation questions; see this page, item 3:

In fact the usual criticism of SO is that the guidelines were followed so slavishly that interesting and useful material was deleted as “off topic.” Glad that didn’t happen this time.
