The Sun today emitted an X9.0 solar flare in our direction.
This follows the X7.1 flare and CME on Oct 1 from the same active region, which will likely cause enhanced auroras tonight and tomorrow.
This is the strongest flare of the current 11 year solar cycle which is now nearing peak. The flare is stronger than the X8.7 flare on May 14 which provided a grand light show all the way to mid latitudes.
Still waiting for analysis to indicate whether a CME was ejected.
