You can then (using the LEGACY UI) export a site from the old controller, then on the new controller (new UI ok) add the site and import to new controller, and use old controller to re-direct your devices at the new controller with perhaps 5-10 minutes of outage.
FWIW GlennR does have an easy update script, but I have not used it as I wanted to start over from scratch in a fresh VM anyway.
