For me, new in late 2023, it was a pretty rough onboarding. Very persnickety corrections of the many bad things I was doing/not doing. I did change my habits to accommodate some of it; later I realized a lot was bullshit but not all. Things that in hindsight, I think would have been better handled by plain old ignoring.

I wouldn't put up with that treatment now. And I would not do it to anyone, sanctimonious you're not radical enough to be here type crap.

That negative stuff generates persistent impressions, long after it's passed, and from here, it mostly has, and numbers grew and frankly drowned out with holier than thou.

But as recently as yesterday, I've seen complaints about complaints (lol) of insufficient onboarding new folk, that people have done (genuinely) good work producing materials and guides for new folk. And it really is good, but there's no built in mechanism that passes it in front of new people. So people don't know about it, and I can see that frustration in the makers of onboarding materials. But the frustration energy of the issue needs to go towards getting newbie guides on front of newbies, and not complaining to the rest of us. (I'm fine reading the frustrated posts; I don't mean to add to the burden. I take it as genuine frustration with the inability to get itto the people who need it.)
